Chaichester
Pat Truscott (aka Chaichester) is a brooding Novocastrian songwriter/producer.
BottomIt’s been a busy 2024 for Pat Truscott aka Chaichester. With the release of his self titled EP in 2023, the fledgling Novocastrian songwriter and his brooding, enigmatic approach (as well as an exciting 4 piece band in tow), has already released 4 singles in this year.
He describes the anticipation for new releases: “It’s nice having more people around the project now, with the band – I have a sounding board, everyone’s able to contribute themselves where they’re comfortable which is lovely”.
Over the course of 5 years, the foundations of Chaichester started to come together with the COVID lockdowns, finally gaining time to focus on finishing the music amidst the jarring stillness of being locked indoors during the pandemic. “I’m a bit of an over thinker with some perfectionistic traits, so this gave me some troubles when putting music out. (I had) other projects that were never finished because of this, but I started to find some momentum by just focusing on doing things, rather than over-thinking them”.
The 2024 releases have shown a varied approach to the music; from the uplifting bop in “Overcontrol”, to the mellow waltz in “Lansdowne”, Truscott shows the corners of his psyche and his songwriting: “I’m just happy to be here writing music and have people listening to it”.
“A lush, melancholic mix of indie, folk, and psych conjuring up comparisons to Ball Park Music and Augie March” – Newcastle Herald.
“Chaichester’s debut EP is a triumph” – Newcastle Live.
