BottomDael Allison has won national awards for poetry, essay, an unpublished novel and the International Wildcare Prize for Environmental Writing. Her MA in creative writing from UTS explored the life and work of Australia’s first modernist artist, Ian Fairweather. Eleven poems from her book Fairweather’s Raft (Walleah Press, 2012) featured in an ABC Poetica soundscape. Three chapbooks of her poetry have also been published. For her PhD in creative writing from the University of Newcastle (2024), Dael researched the creative narratives of Newcastle, and wrote a short story cycle embedding real places and event in the region.
Newcastle Writers Festival would like to acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the festival takes place, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and extend this respect to all First Nations people attending our festival.
