BottomHoney Kassel is a writer and poet originally from Dunghutti country on the Mid North Coast, but is now based in Muloobinba. She is a final-year undergraduate of the Creative Writing program at the University of Newcastle. Honey’s writing interests include unpicking threads of class and generational conflict, suburban delirium and grunge-femme rage. Her writing always centres real people from real towns, and seeks to grasp the claustrophobic space occupied by Gen-Z in contemporary Australia. She usually pens short stories and poetry, but is also currently working on a longer novella manuscript. Most of Honey’s work is unpublished, with the exception of a few poetry films on Vimeo. She has performed several times at the university’s Voices and Verses showcase, as well as open-mic nights at the pub, to a solid audience of four humans. Five, if you count the guy behind the bar.
Newcastle Writers Festival would like to acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the festival takes place, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and extend this respect to all First Nations people attending our festival.
