BottomJackson Turton is a PhD English and Writing student at the University of Newcastle. His research and writing focus on the relationship between reader and writer, and in turn, his writing is almost invariably about (fictional) writers and their work. Jackson is especially interested in how unconventional techniques can be used to shape the reader’s experience and how this can modulate the drama on the page. As part of his PhD, Jackson is currently writing his first novel, a multi-generational saga about a dysfunctional family of writers, which is told, naturally, through their books, and books within those books, and books within those books.
Newcastle Writers Festival would like to acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the festival takes place, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and extend this respect to all First Nations people attending our festival.
