BottomMaeve Marsden is a writer and theatremaker, as well as the Creative Director of Varuna and the Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival. She is the curator of national storytelling project, Queerstories, for which she’s hosted sold out events around the country for the last eight years, published a collection of stories, and produced an award-winning podcast. She has toured critically acclaimed productions for over a decade, appearing at major arts festivals and venues around Australia and the UK, and her debut as a playwright, Blessed Union, enjoyed a highly successful season at Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney.
A well-respected cultural commentator, Maeve has hosted events for Sydney Writers’ Festival, Melbourne Writers’ Festival, Blue Mountains Writers’ Festival, Antidote Festival at the Sydney Opera House, All About Women, Mudgee Readers’ Festival, Newcastle Writers Festival, Adelaide Writers’ Week, Sydney Mardi Gras and Ubud Writers’ Festival in Bali. In 2019 and 2020, Maeve curated Queer Thinking, Sydney Mardi Gras’ two-day talks and ideas festival.
As an opinion writer, essayist and critic, her work has appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, Guardian Australia, Overland, Junkee, ABC, SBS, ArtsHub, Daily Review, Archer Magazine and Audrey Journal.
