BottomOmar Sakr is the son of Arab and Turkish Muslim migrants. He is the author of three poetry collections, including The Lost Arabs (UQP), which won the 2020 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry, and Non-Essential Work (UQP) which was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Literary Award and the ALS Gold medal. His acclaimed debut novel, Son of Sin (Affirm Press) has just been released in the UK through the87press. In 2023, he was awarded the Bess Hokin Prize by Poetry Magazine. His latest book is The Nightmare Sequence, a collection of poetry and art responding to the genocide in Gaza illustrated by Safdar Ahmed. He is the 2024 recipient of the Copyright Agency’s Non-Fiction Fellowship and he lives on Dharug land, where he was born and raised.
