BottomDuncan McDuie-Ra is professor of urban sociology at the University of Newcastle. His research is interested in urban social and cultural life, especially the ways bodies move through and between cities and the interplay between people and infrastructure, from memorials to concrete slabs. He has researched in cities throughout Asia and more recently in Australia with a particular interest in small cities and cities in out of the way places. He is the author of eight books including the recent titles: Skateboard Video: Archiving the City from Below (Springer, 2021), Skateboarding and Urban Landscapes in Asia: Endless Spots (Amsterdam University Press, 2021), Ceasefire City: militarism, capitalism and urbanism in Dimapur (Oxford University Press, 2020, co-authored with Dolly Kikon) and Borderland City in New India: Frontier to Gateway (Amsterdam University Press, 2016). He skateboards every day and falls very often.
