The Newcastle Writers Festival has lost one of its most treasured supporters. Much-loved ABC Newcastle presenter Jill Emberson died last night surrounded by her loved ones after a determined struggle with ovarian cancer.
From festival director Rosemarie Milsom: ‘Jill was there from the very beginning and offered me her enthusiastic support in the lead up to the inaugural festival in 2013. She never wavered. She has hosted sessions with Stan Grant, Wesley Enoch, Bruce Pascoe, and this year I was thrilled to include her in the program to lead a conversation with Gillian Triggs. Jill will forever remain part of the festival family and her generosity and passion will continue to inspire me. I will miss her deeply and everyone involved with the festival extends their condolences to her husband Ken, daughter Malia, and extended family.’
You are welcome to share your memories of Jill with us and we will make sure they are forwarded to the family. And please consider a donation, no matter how small, to support ovarian cancer research – a cause that Jill championed.
